It was a long wait for us, for Company of Cauldron to offer the menu which we will truly love. Well we must wait of course since it is not easy to get a reservation in this place and we do not want to waste our money on something which we might not like at all. Well, let me make this clear, the menu changes every night at Company of Cauldron. You can check out the weekly menu at their website and you can take your pick. They also have two seatings: 6:45 and 8:45. We went to the second seating and I felt like I was one of those medieval travelers of old being served by a matron in the town’s tavern. It’s nothing like this in the restaurant, it is just their unusual seating and menu that makes me imagine the medieval setting. Of course there is the cramped space. For me it is too small for a restaurant. We were seated in a table with the other couples just within our reach. That for me is too close for comfort. Nevertheless, I actually fell in love with the place. It is very beautiful and totally out of the ordinary. Indeed it was an experience, not just for the sense of taste but also for all the other senses. Their interior design is beautiful and they have a harpist to complete the ensemble. It was just divine. What we decided to have was their famous crab cake in butter dijoinaise sauce, salmon with nuts (funny choice) and different chocolate for dessert. The crab cake was absolutely fantastic. I love their dijoinaise sauce . They also served them in large portions so that for me is a two thumbs up. The salmon did not disappoint although I have to admit that I love the crab cake better. For dessert, I had the chocolate cake - it was 'molten', but to be honest, from the crab cake it went downhill from there. I did not like their molten chocolate cake..Their wine seemed OK, although I am not a very reliable person when it comes to liquor. All in all, we were satisfied with the meal and promised ourselves to go back there next time. It was just a wonderful experience even though the food, especially the dessert, is not that exciting. And I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who likes set-menus.

Company of the Cauldron has really good food (different menu each night, so you sign up for the night that appeals to you). It is small and manageable, but a bit claustrophobic -- you sit really near other diners, and the tables are small. I had a bad experience last summer -- my main course (swordfish) was cleared while I was in the bathroom, and I'd only eaten about half of it. The server argued with me that I'd left my silverware in a position that indicated I'd finished. No attempt to recompense me, nor to provide more food was forthcoming. I left feeling really angry (I'd eaten there about 3-4 times previously), and although I eat at about 10-15 restaurants on Nantucket each summer, I will not go back there ever. If you go, I guess you'll have to bring your food into the bathroom with you. (joke) Anyway, I do like the restaurant, but now will not return, due to the shabby treatment.
